Health and Safety

Basement Force were the lead authors on the ASUC (Association of Specialist Underpinning Contractors) publication:

"ASUC Guidelines on safe and efficient basement construction directly below or near to existing structures."

These guidelines were consulted on and endorsed by the Health and Safety Executive.

Our Process to Prepare for Basement Constructions

We will carry out an initial site investigation, so that we are aware of what we are working with and if the property is currently suitable for a basement construction. This will allow us to investigate such as, the soil type and condition, existence of watercourse, location of drains, any ground contaminations, and will let us assess whether there are any risks of movement.

Depending on the circumstances of your property, we will submit any necessary documentation to the Construction Traffic Management Plans (CTMP).

A Construction Management Plan (CMP) will be put together at the start of a project to map out all necessary details required for us to be able to complete the basement construction.

A method statement, also known as safe systems of work, is used to outline how the work on the project will be carried out safely and without risks of health.

If any temporary works are required in order for the finished project to be completed, we will put together designs to detail the temporary works and their designs.

A party wall is a wall extending across the boundary of two or more homeowners. A party wall agreement is used to manage the relationship between homeowners with a common boundary. We will provide support in the party wall agreement process, if this is necessary.
